Nook End Farm is in the fells above Ambleside and has an air of complete peace and tranquillity, surrounded by nature, magnificent views and local walks. On all four
points of the compass you see fell, mountain or lake with views of Loughrigg, the Langdales, Rydal Fell, Sweden Bridge and Lake Windermere.
Country walks start literally outside the front door and you can be on the fells within a few steps. Head out over the bridge, (where you can swim in the beck), past the
waterfalls and onto Scandale, through to Deep Dale and on towards Ullswater, or work your way to Rydal Fell and onto Fairfield.
Ambleside is half a mile away and Grasmere is a few miles to the north. Both these well known villages offer shops, pubs and restaurants as well as being historically
interesting to explore.Wordsworth's home at Rydal and his tomb at Grasmere are only a short distance away and can easily be walked to.
There is much to make an enjoyable and entertaining stay, but for most guests it is the combination of setting and building that is so special to Nook End. Sitting on the
terrace or in the old cottage garden with only the sound of sheep, birds and the hum of bees rising above pure tranquility.
We have restored this 17th century farm house to its original condition and
authenticity, yet provided all the modern convenience you expect today. The hall is part oak paneled with low ceilings and a fine long case clock at the foot of the oak
stair way. The first door leads into a little parlour, a snug room with open fire, perfect period decor, antique furniture and a lovely soft light coming from the deep widow reveals.
The dining room has a large fireplace with the original range which, with its burnished black iron and polished brass, glows against the deep green walls and oak beams.
The table is a fine antique oak oval with oak chairs and, with often a centrepiece of flowers picked from the garden, it is an atmospheric place to dine.
Next is the main drawing room, a large and light room with oak beams and timbered floor. Antique sofas, chair and settle are drawn to another open fire. The kitchen, in
contrast, is modern fitted with every convenience. Lastly on the ground floor is a small, simple, single bedroom. Up stairs to a large landing and hall with superb pegged oak floor boards.
All three bedrooms are furnished and decorated in a delightful manner with many antique pieces. The first has a half tester bed and next door is a fabulous but simple
bathroom with Victorian roll top bath and shower, wash hand basin and WC. The second bedroom has a fine double brass bed and ensuite shower, WHB and WC.
The third has a four poster and, for interest, has a wardrobe once owned by Beatrix Potter. Next to this room is the third bathroom with bath, shower, WHB and WC. To
the front of the house is a little terrace leading to a delightful cottage garden and, of course, all around are the open fells and fields in which to wander.
